On July 15, Westchester Medical Center Health Network completed a "hospital unification plan," folding eight hospitals under a single license: HealthAlliance Hospital (Kingston), Good Samaritan Hospital (Suffern), Bon Secours Community Hospital (Port Jervis), St. Anthony Community Hospital (Warwick), St. Joseph's Place skilled nursing facility (Port Jervis), and MidHudson Regional Hospital (already a WMC division).
The entity holding that license is the Westchester County Health Care Corporation — the same public benefit corporation that governs Westchester Medical Center's flagship campus in Valhalla. Most of the newly consolidated hospitals sit outside Westchester's own borders.
Why it matters: A corporation this county chartered just extended its direct licensing authority across four counties in the Hudson Valley. WMCHealth CEO David Lubarsky says the change means safer, more consistent care, with no changes to patients' doctors, facilities, or staff pay. But licensing consolidations like this one are frequently a first step — service and staffing changes sometimes follow 18 to 24 months later.
